Introduction to Community Connection

Established in 1969, Community Connection is a charitable organization based in Collingwood, Ontario, dedicated to fostering equitable communities. With a vision of creating healthy neighborhoods where essential services are accessible to all, the organization comprises over 30 passionate employees who deliver quality services, including inquiry support, data resources, business intelligence, and social enterprise.  

Addressing Urgent Needs

Recognizing the pressing challenges faced by many individuals and families—such as access to food, shelter, and clothing—Community Connection has partnered with organizations like United Way Canada to establish the Urgent Needs Fund Initiative. This program provides immediate financial assistance for essential expenses like rent, utilities, and education to those in dire need.

Managing the Urgent Needs Fund through outdated tools like Excel spreadsheets became increasingly unsustainable as demand grew. Key challenges included:

Manual tracking of requests and fund distribution led to delays and errors.  

A rising number of individuals seeking urgent financial aid overwhelmed the existing system.

Coordinating efforts among multiple funders and agencies proved challenging without a streamlined digital solution.

Verification and processing of requests were cumbersome, risking timely assistance.

The growing number of partners highlighted the need for a more robust, scalable system.
